Christmas Pajama Time!

Every year my Mom gave me a new pair of pjs to open on Christmas Eve. Sadly it took me until my teens to realize that it was ALWAYS going to be pajamas in the box (I was always hoping for a new toy!)

So of course now that I have two little girls myself I am continuing the tradition... I'm still waiting for them to figure out that it's ALWAYS pajamas.

I typically wrap them up in a cute box with some pop corn and a "Movie Ticket" to let them pick out a movie on Apple Tv. It makes for a really wonderful family tradition.

Our favorite pajamas are these pj pants. They are soft and comfortable and can be paired with a simple t-shirt. Not too mention there are endless options of cotton flannel out there. I made these as a party favor at my oldest daughter's 7th Birthday sleepover... They were a HUGE hit!

My Kids Sleepover Pajama Pant is the best beginner DIY sewing gift for the Holiday season. It's a great way to get those "perfect" Christmas morning photos ;)

Here's my tutorial on making an instant favorite handmade Christmas present.

1. Start with sewing the leg seams together on BOTH legs.
2. Turn one leg right side out. Place it inside the other leg, matching right sides together and front and back crotch seams.
3. Sew crotch seam together. Pull legs out of each other and turn pants right side out.
4. Sew each short end of the cuff pieces together with right sides together.

5. Fold cuff in half along the fold line with right sides facing out.
6. Place cuff on the bottom of each lego with right sides together. Make sure you match the cuff seam to the inner leg seam of the pant. Sew around cuff. Repeat for second leg.
7. Sew the short ends of the waistband together with right sides together.

So I have two different methods for sewing an elastic waistband. One is a typical home-sewing method of pulling the elastic through the already sewn waistband, but my second method is far faster and easier if you are an experienced sewer.

If you are going for the typical method, follow steps 8-11. If you are feeling adventurous, skip down to steps 11-13.

8. Fold waistband in half along the fold line with right sides facing out. Match Center Back pant seam to the seam in the fold waistband with right sides together. (apologies... not pictured!)
9. Sew around wast seam. Leave approximately 2" open to feed through your elastic.
10. Feed elastic through waistband. You can do this by attaching a safety pin to one end and guiding it through the entire waistband. Make sure to hold the other end of your elastic to that you don't pull it into the waistband! When bother ends are out stitch across the elastic following step 11.
11. Sew elastic together by overlapping the ends about 1/2". Sew across several times to secure them together.

**Complete these steps (12-13) if you are doing the more experienced method**

12. Fold waistband in half with right sides facing out along the fold line, insert elastic inside folded waistband.
13. Matching Center Back pant seam to the seam in the waistband, place waistband around wast with right sides together. Sew around wast seam while encasing elastic at the same time. Be sure to sew elastic together in step 11 before sewing it into the waistband (unlike the method explained in steps 8-10)

Woohoo! You're done. Now get to wrapping, Christmas will be here before you know it!
